BASEBALL
TIPS

Baseball
Tips 1 - Buy a glove that fits you and is suitable
for the position you are playing. Outfielders normally have
slightly longer gloves; while, infielders have gloves with smaller
pockets. Make sure to break your glove in. Playing catch is
the best way to break it in.
Baseball
Tips 2 - Select a bat that is suited to you. Bats come in
varying lengths and weights. They are also made from different
materials. Find one that feels comfortable when swinging. If
you have to use too much force to swing, then you should select
a lighter bat and visa versa. Being comfortable with your bat
is the first step in becoming a great hitter.
Baseball
Tips 3 - Learn the strike zone. Avoid hitting bad pitches
that are too high or low in the strike zone. Don't be overly
aggressive. Focus on hitting the ball to put it into play. Keep
your eye on the ball.
Baseball
Tips 4 - Look at the spot where the ball is going to leave
the pitchers hand. Don't make the folly of looking at the pitchers
eyes, that's not where the pitch will be coming from. One way
to practice this is to take batting practice without swinging.
Just watch the balls as they leave the pitchers hand to the
catcher's glove. Try to see if you can tell which pitch is coming
and where it is going. This will help you develop your pitch
recognition skills.
Baseball
Tips 5 - Always believe that the next ball hit is coming
to you, otherwise you can be caught flat-footed. Be attentive.
Baseball
Tips 6 - Before each pitch, have your knees slightly bent
and your back straight. When the ball comes to you, look the
ball into your glove with your head up. Make the transition
from your glove to your hand using a two finger grip. Throw
the ball with an overhand motion keeping your non-throwing shoulder
pointed towards the intended fielder. Follow through.
Baseball
Tips 7 - When pitching use a comfortable and balanced motion.
Otherwise, you may injure yourself during the delivery. Drive
off the mound using your legs in an over-the-top style.
Baseball
Tips 8 - Proper rest between pitching sessions is essential
to prevent injury. The motions used to pitch are not natural
to the body so extended pitching without rest can lead to shoulder,
elbow, wrist, and/or knee problems.
Baseball
Tips 9 - Practice the way you are going to play. The things
you do in practice will carry over to game time. Don't be lackadaisical
during batting or pitching practice as once you develop bad
mechanics they can sometimes be hard to unlearn. Pay attention
during practice, if you catch your mind wandering off during
practice, chances are it will happen during the game as well.
Baseball
Tips 10 - Remember to have fun. It is just a game after
all. If you take baseball too seriously, you miss the main point
of the sport. So relax, try your best, and don't be afraid to
fail. You can't win every game.
Baseball Tips 11 - Always pay attention to your base
coaches when running the bases. Your third base coach has a
better view of what's going on and will guide you whether to
keep going or to stop. No worse feeling than getting thrown
out at home after running through your 3rd base coach's sign.
