Etiquette
Tips 1 - Saying please and thank you goes a long
way. It's so simple, but it means a lot to the person hearing
it. It's also important to remember to say these things not
just to people you know, but to those you don't know that are
doing something for you - such as waiters and store clerks.
You'll be surprised how much better service you'll get just
for saying please and thank you.
Etiquette
Tips 2 - Keep stamped and addressed envelopes on
hand to put thank you notes in. This way as soon as you receive
a gift or favor, half the work of sending a thank you note is
already done.
Etiquette
Tips 3 - Smile at everyone. It really helps with
meeting new people, as it puts the other person at ease. Also,
smile when you are answering the phone, the person on the other
end can tell.
Etiquette
Tips 4 - When in a public setting, either turn your
cell phone off or set it to vibrate. Public settings include
meetings, movie theatres, parties, on public transportation
and while in line to check out at stores. Also, if you must
answer your phone, excuse yourself from these situations as
to not offend others around you.
Etiquette
Tips 5 - Holding the door for others is always the
proper thing to do, regardless of whether you are male or female.
Hold the door open for anyone who happens to be coming in as
you're going out, or is going out as you are going out.
Etiquette
Tips 6 - Dress yourself well. Not only does dressing
well give you confidence to face others, but it allows the person
you are speaking with to pay more attention to you instead of
your weird, wacky or inappropriate clothing.
Etiquette
Tips 7 - Teaching kids manners at an early age is
a good thing. In fact it's never too early to start teaching
a child about please, thank you, excuse me, your welcome and
other basics. It's also easier to teach good manners young,
then to have to fix bad ones when they are older.
Etiquette
Tips 8 - When traveling to other countries, keep
in mind that their etiquette rules will be different then those
in your home country. Take some time before heading out to learn
what some of the differences are.
Etiquette
Tips 9 - When at a party - Always arrive a few minutes
early, and never late. Remember to thank the host/hostess for
inviting you. Also remember to mingle with both the person hosting
the party and the other guests.
Etiquette
Tips 10 - When meeting someone older or in a high
ranking position, you should always address them by their last
name or profession (ie: Dr.). Allow them to be the one to tell
you that formalities are not necessary and you can call them
by their first name.
