TIPS

Driving
Tips 1 - Before driving, always do a quick safety
check of your car. Take a look at the tires to make sure they
are properly inflated, check to make sure your lights and turn
signals are working properly. Check for fluid leaks or items
that may be hanging from the vehicle. Make sure your windshield
wipers and horn are working properly.
Driving
Tips 2 - Make sure you adjust your mirrors and seat before
you start driving.
Driving
Tips 3 - When stopping at a stop sign, make sure that as
you apply your brakes you feel the car rock backwards slightly
before moving forward again. Also make sure that you look to
the left, then to the right, then straight forward, then again
to the left before moving. This is also a good idea if you are
at a traffic light that has just turned green.
Driving
Tips 4 - Do not always assume what the other driver is going
to do. If you are at a four-way stop and there is an oncoming
car. Do not assume that the car will stop at the sign. If you
are stopped and the oncoming car is using their turn signal,
do not assume that the car is actually going to turn.
Driving
Tips 5 - If you are traveling behind other vehicles, you
should always maintain a distance of at least four seconds between
yourself and the next vehicle. To determine this timing, if
the car in front of you passes a non-moving object, count to
see how long it takes you to pass the same object. Back off
your speed somewhat if you pass the object before counting to
four. Increase this distance to eight seconds during bad weather
or at night.
Driving
Tips 6 - DO NOT USE YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING!! This
will increase your chances of being in a collision by nearly
400 percent since you are not giving your full attention to
the road. If you must make a call, pull over before pulling
out your phone.
Driving
Tips 7 - Pull over to the right side of the road and STOP
when being approached by an oncoming emergency vehicle, such
as police, fire truck, or ambulance.
Driving
Tips 8 - If you are driving on a road with multiple lanes,
stay in the right lane as much as possible and leave the left
lanes to allow vehicles to pass one another.
Driving
Tips 9 - Remember that your braking distance increases as
your speed increases. When you drive at twice your ordinary
speed, it takes your car four times as long to brake properly.
Driving
Tips 10 - Be alert and watch the drivers around you. If
they are on their phones, eating, or putting on makeup while
driving, they are not paying as much attention to the road as
they should be.
Driving
Tips 11 - Be careful when driving in heavy rain. Some puddles
on the road may be deeper than you expect and you might hydroplane.
Although it is best to avoid them completely, if you have to
drive through standing water on the road, do so carefully, don't
rush through.
Driving
Tips 12 - Don't turn your hi-beams on when driving in intense
fog. Instead, drive with the low-beams. The intense light from
the hi-beams is reflected when it hits the fog so it makes it
even harder to see.
Driving
Tips 13 - If your car is equipped with a cruise control,
USE it. Just set the control to the speed limit and leave it
alone. When you're on the highway, it reduces the risk of speeding
due to a heavy foot.
Driving
Tips 14 - Do NOT use cruise control in heavy traffic, on
slippery surfaces, or on extremely hilly roads.
Driving
Tips 15 - Look far ahead while driving, especially in turns.
This will help you avoid trouble on straightaways, and helps
taking turns and curves much more smoothly, even at higher speeds.
