Wine
Tips 1 - Drink responsibly when you are enjoying
a drink. Don't drink if you are under the age of 21, and most
importantly don't drive if you drink.
Wine
Tips 2 - There are many different varieties of wine, based
on the grapes used to make the wine, as well as the region where
the wine was produced. Some of these varieties include cabernet
sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir, pinot grigio, shiraz, charonnay,
chablis, riesling, and zinfandel.
Wine
Tips 3 - Most white wines are best when served just chilled
and not at a truly cold temperature. If you are storing the
wine in the refrigerator, let it warm slightly before serving.
Wine
Tips 4 - Red wines are generally best served at room temperature;
however, you may find that some lighter-bodied reds do have
a better flavor if served slightly chilled. Try it both ways
and see which you prefer.
Wine
Tips 5 - If you are trying to pair wines with the meal that
is being served, try to serve wines that will compliment what
you are serving. With appetizers, consider a white wine or sparkling
wine. Generally, red wines go best with red meats, duck, or
other wild game, and white wines are best served with fish and
seafood. However, this may not always be the case. A lighter-bodied
red wine may work better with a grilled fish (such as swordfish
or grilled tuna steak), or a fish entree that is served in a
tomato-based sauce. And when serving wine with chicken, you
need to take into consideration the method by which the chicken
has been cooked, and the sauce that it may be served in, when
choosing the wine.

Tips 6 - If you are storing a bottle of unopened wine, it
is best to store it on its side. This will help keep the cork
moist and prevent oxygen from entering the bottle. It is also
best to store the wine in a cool, dark place with no direct
sunlight.
Wine
Tips 7 - If you need to chill a bottle of wine quickly,
the best way is to place the bottle in a bucket filled halfway
up with ice, water, and a little bit of salt.
Wine
Tips 8 - Wine, particularly red wine, may sometimes benefit
by being decanted into another container before serving. The
purpose of this with an older wine is to remove sediment that
may have accumulated in the bottle from the wine, and with younger
wines, decanting helps aerate the wine. If you need to decant
an older bottle of wine, it is best to let the bottle stand
upright for between twelve and twenty-four hours before doing
this.
Wine
Tips 9 - When holding your wine glass, hold the glass by
the stem and not by the top portion, or "bowl," of
the glass. Holding a glass by the bowl will increase the chance
that the wine itself may be warmed by the warmth of the hand
holding the glass.
Wine
Tips 10 - If you need to store an unfinished bottle of wine,
it is best to refrigerate it, as the chemical processes that
may damage the wine will take a longer time to occur in a colder
temperature. You may also wish to re-cork the wine, or decant
it into a smaller half-bottle if you have one available. Try
to drink the remainder of the bottle within one day, since after
that the wine may be degraded to a point that it is no longer
drinkable.
